Coming up from State Farm Center on Thursday, the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Illinois Fighting Illini will be matching up on the college basketball court.
Iowa enters this one with a 9-9 record this year. The Hawkeyes have lost their last three games, most recently falling to Maryland on Sunday. In that one, Iowa’s Isaiah Moss put up 25 points to lead the team.
USA TODAY Sports
Tyler Cook is the top Hawkeyes scorer on 14.7 PG with 6.3 RPG this year, and Moss has 12.1 PPG. Jordan Bohannon also has 12.1 PPG with 5.0 APG, and Luka Garza is in double-digits as well for Iowa on 10.2 PPG and 6.2 RPG.
Over on the Illinois side, they’re sitting at 10-7 this season. The Illini have recorded losses in their last two games, falling to Minnesota and Michigan in that time. In the Wolverines game, Illinois forward Kipper Nichols put up 17 points.
Leading the scoring for Illinois this year is Leron Black, with 14.3 PPG and 5.7 RPG, while Michael Finke has 10.6 PPG and 5.4 RPG. They’re the only two Illini players averaging in double-digits but Aaron Jordan is close on 9.9 PPG.
Iowa is 7-18-1 ATS in their last 26 road games and 1-3-1 ATS in their last five Thursday games. The Hawkeyes are also 0-2-2 ATS in the last four following an ATS loss and 0-5-1 ATS in their last six versus the Big Ten.
Meanwhile, the Illini are 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven following a straight-up loss and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 home games. Illinois is also 1-7 ATS in their last eight Thursday games and the under is 23-6 in their last 29 overall.
Iowa had a pretty nice run going against sub-par competition last month, but have hit a wall in the last three games—which haven’t really been all that close. As for Illinois, their starters stunk it up pretty bad in the Michigan game, with no one from that group scoring more than eight points. I don’t have a lot of faith in either one of these teams right now, but I think Iowa can get in there and cover.
