MAAC college basketball rivals the Monmouth Hawks and the Niagara Purple Eagles faceoff on Friday.
The Monmouth Hawks have their work cut out for them if they are to challenge for the MAAC title. Monmouth did take a step in the right direction with a 77-66 win versus the Manhattan Jasper as a 5.5 point favorite where a 56.5%-40% shooting edge and a 21-11 advantage at the stripe were decisive.

Diago Quinn was the top offensive option for the Hawks with 19 points and six boards on 6-7 from the floor and a 7-8 mark at the line. Deion Hammond gave Monmouth 17 points and four yanks on 5-9 shooting while Pierre Star, Austin Tilghman and Ray Salnave each scored nine points.
The Niagara Purple Eagles haven’t enjoyed a great deal of success in MAAC play but the team has an opportunity for three straight conference victories after routing the Marist Red Foxes 86-70 as a 3.5 point road favorite. A 46-29 second half run secured the win with a 41.4%-36.9% difference in marksmanship being decisive.
Matt Scott led all scorers with 23 points and 15 rebounds on 7-22 from the floor an 8-10 at the line followed by Kahlil Dukes with 15 point on 5-12 shooting. Kevin Larkin gave the Purple Eagles 12 points on 4-8 from the field while James Towns and Marvin Prochet combined for 20 points with Prochet hauling in eleven rebounds.
