Saint Mary’s dominated the Broncos on both ends of the court and pulled away in the 2nd half after taking a 38-26 halftime lead. Saint Mary’s shot 55.2% from the field and 50.0% (9-18) from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Gaels was Jock Landale who had a double-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 blocks. On the season, Saint Mary’s is averaging 80.3 ppg on 51.6% shooting from the field. The Gaels are averaging 8.3 three-pointers per game on 40.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Saint Mary’s has been led by Jock Landale (21.2 ppg, 10.2 rpg, 1.8 apg), Calvin Hermanson (12.6 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 1.2 apg), Emmett Naar (11.6 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 9.1 apg), and Jordan Ford (8.2 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 1.8 apg). The Pepperdine Waves lost their 8th consecutive game and dropped to 3-14 (0-5 WCC) on the season after being defeated by the BYU Cougars, 83-63, this past Thursday night. Pepperdine trailed by just a 40-34 margin at halftime, however, struggled offensively in the 2nd half and couldn’t fight back after BYU took a 64-40 lead with 12:17 left in regulation. Pepperdine allowed BYU to shoot 58.3% from the field and 50.0% (9-18) from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Waves was Matthew Atewe who had 15 points, 8 rebounds, and a steal. On the season, Pepperdine is averaging 71.6 ppg on 45.9% shooting from the field. The Waves are averaging 5.2 three-pointers per game on 31.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Pepperdine has been led by Kameron Edwards (15.9 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 1.1 apg), Colbey Ross (14.8 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 5.1 apg), Eric Cooper Jr. (12.8 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 1.4 apg), and Trae Berhow (9.6 ppg, 5.8 rpg). Defensively, Pepperdine is allowing their opponents to average 79.9 ppg on 48.8% shooting from the field. The Waves have a rebound margin of 3.9 and a turnover margin of -2.9. Pepperdine will most likely be without Kameron Edwards who is out indefinitely due to a concussion.
The Gaels are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a straight up win and 8-2-2 ATS in their last 12 games vs. WCC opponents. The Waves are 16-36-1 ATS in their last 53 games overall and just 2-8-11 in their last 11 home games.
Saint Mary’s is the team to beat in the WCC this season and has been great on both ends of the court as the Gaels rank 60th in scoring offense and 36th in scoring defense. Pepperdine has lost 11 of their last 12 games and has really had trouble stopping opponents as the Waves rank 324th in scoring defense and 336th in defensive FG%. Saint Mary’s might overlook this game a bit as they have conference rival, Gonzaga, on the schedule after this one, however, as Pepperdine can’t stop anyone on defense and will be without their best scorer, I still think the Gaels will be able to do enough on the road to cover this spread.
