The Navy Midshipmen improved to 12-6 (3-2 Patriot League) on the season after defeating the Holy Cross Crusaders, 61-56 in OT, this past Thursday. Navy had a few chances to win at the end of regulation that came up short, however, pulled away in overtime after two Cam Davis FT’s gave Navy a 59-53 lead with :33 seconds left. Navy Held Army to 38.0% shooting from the field and 25.9% (7-27) from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Midshipmen was Tom Lacey who had 7 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and a block. On the season, Navy is averaging 70.4 ppg on 45.1% shooting from the field. The Midshipmen are averaging 7.1 three-pointers per game on 35.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Navy has been led by Shawn Anderson (12.6 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 3.1 apg), Bryce Dulin (11.3 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 1.9 apg), Hasan Abdullah (10.7 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 3.4 apg, 2.3 bpg), and Tom Lacey (9.1 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.8 apg). Defensively, Navy is allowing their opponents to average 67.1 ppg on 44.0% shooting from the field. The Midshipmen have a rebound margin of 4.9 and a turnover margin of 0.3.
The Black Knights are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Midshipmen are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games however, are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up win.
Army has won 3 of their last 4 games and has been led by their offense that ranks 87th in scoring offense, 9th in assists per game, and 5th in 3P-FG%. Navy has also won 3 of their last 4 games and although they rank just 271st on the offense end, the Midshipmen have gotten it done defensively as the Navy ranks 68th in scoring defense. Navy has a defense that can really slow down the pace of this game, however, I like how Army has shot from beyond the arc this season and as the Black Knights have played and competed against some better teams then Navy has seen, I’m taking Army to cover this small spread.
