The UMASS Minutemen will look to build some steam after back-to-back conference wins following their 86-79 overtime win over La Salle in their last outing. Luwane Pipkins went off for a game-high 44 points on 15 of 27 shooting with 6 threes and a perfect 8 for 8 mark from the foul line along with a share of the team lead with 5 assists. Carl Pierre added 25 points as the only other UMASS player to score in double figures in the win, while C.J. Anderson added team-highs of 9 rebounds and 5 assists with 4 steals in the winning effort. Pipkins leads the team in scoring with 19.8 points per game while Anderson leads the team in assists with 5.8 dimes per game and Malik Hines leads the team in rebounding with 6.5 rebounds per game this season. As a team, UMASS is scoring 71.9 points per game on 45.5% shooting from the field, 37.7% from behind the arc and 76% from the foul line this season.
Saint Joseph’s is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 Sunday games while the over is 14-3 in their last 17 games following a loss. UMASS is 19-7-1 ATS in their last 27 Sunday games and 6-13 ATS in their last 19 conference matchups while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. Saint Joseph’s is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings at UMASS.
The Minutemen come into this one in much better form and the Hawks will have to contain Pipkins is he isn’t going to have another breakout game. However, the Hawks are not as bad as their record would indicate and have had no problems in years past going to Massachusetts and getting the job done on the road, so I’ll take the free bucket with Saint Joseph’s here.
