The NC State Wolfpack will travel to John Paul Jones Arena to take on the 3rd ranked Virginia Cavaliers this Sunday night in College Basketball action.
The NC State Wolfpack beat their 2nd straight ranked team and improved to 12-5 (2-2 ACC) on the season after defeating the 19th ranked Clemson Tigers, 78-77, this past Thursday. NC State allowed Clemson to fight back from a 73-61 deficit with 1:33 left to make it a game late, however, the Tigers couldn’t force OT after Clemson’s Gabe DeVoe missed a game-tying free-throw attempt with a second remaining in regulation. NC State shot 41.8% from the field and 47.6% (10-21) from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Wolfpack was Omer Yurtseven who had 29 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 blocks. On the season, NC State is averaging 83.1 ppg on 46.6% shooting from the field. The Wolfpack are averaging 6.9 three-pointers per game on 34.1% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, NC State has been led by Allerik Freeman (15.2 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 3.0 apg, 1.4 spg), Torin Dorn (13.1 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.0 spg), Omer Yurtseven (12.7 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 1.9 bpg), and Braxton Beverly (10.2 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 4.5 apg). Defensively, NC State is allowing their opponents to average 72.8 ppg on 44.4% shooting from the field. The Wolfpack have a rebound margin of 2.2 and a turnover margin of 4.2.

The 3rd ranked Virginia Cavaliers won their 7th straight game and improved to 15-1 (4-0 ACC) on the season after defeating the Syracuse Orange, 68-61, this past Tuesday. Virginia led by just a 29-26 margin at halftime, however, was able to pull away from the Orange after a 10-2 Cavaliers run gave Virginia a 64-50 lead with 1:24 left in regulation. Virginia held Syracuse to 38.3% shooting from the field and 28.6% (6-21) from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Cavaliers was Kyle Guy who had 22 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and a steal. On the season, Virginia is averaging 70.7 ppg on 47.0% shooting from the field. The Cavaliers are averaging 7.8 three-pointers per game on 39.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Virginia has been led by Kyle Guy (15.4 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.1 spg), Devon Hall (11.9 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 3.4 apg), Ty Jerome (9.8 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 2.9 apg, 1.2 spg), and Isaiah Wilkins (6.7 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 1.8 apg, 1.4 spg). Defensively, Virginia is holding their opponents to 53.0 ppg on 36.1% shooting from the field. The Cavaliers have a rebound margin 1.8 and a turnover margin of 5.2.
The Wolfpack are 8-20-1 ATS in their last 29 games vs. ACC opponents and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 road games. The Cavaliers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a losing road record and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games overall.
NC State has 4 of their last 6 games and have been led by their offense that ranks 33rd in scoring offense and 17th in turnover margin. Virginia is the best defensive team in the country this season and come into this matchup ranked 1st in scoring defense, 2nd defensive FG%, and 7th in turnover margin. This is a lot of points to give to a team that just beat Duke and Clemson, however, the Wolfpack are just 1-4 away from home this season and did just recently lost their last two away games against Clemson and Norte Dame by a combined 46 points. Virginia is tough at home and as I think the Wolfpack offense wouldn’t find the answers to the tough Cavaliers defense, I’m taking Virginia to cover this spread.
