The Texas State Bobcats lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 14-10 (7-4 Sun Belt) on the season after being defeated by the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, 56-54, this past Thursday. In a low-scoring battle, Texas State couldn’t get the home victory after Coastal Carolina’s, Demario Beck, won the game for the Chanticleers after hitting a lay-up at the buzzer in OT. Texas State shot just 33.3% from the field and 20.0% (5-25) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Bobcats was Nijal Pearson who had 16 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 3 blocks, and 2 steals. On the season, Texas State is averaging 66.5 ppg on 44.0% shooting from the field. The Bobcats are averaging 6.0 three-pointers per game on 32.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Texas State has been led by Nijal Pearson (14.2 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1.4 spg), Immanuel King (9.3 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 1.0 apg), Alex Peacock (7.3 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 1.8 apg, 1.1 spg), and Tyler Blount (6.8 ppg, 1.7 rpg, 1.1 apg). Defensively, Texas State is holding their opponents to an average of 62.6 ppg on 42.7% shooting from the field. The Bobcats have a rebound margin of 4.8 and a turnover margin of 0.7.
The Mountaineers are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games following a ATS loss however, are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Bobcats are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400 however, are 0-7 ATS in their last 7 home games.
Its been a tough run for Appalachian State as of late as the Mountaineers have lost 7 of their last 10 games and come into this matchup ranked 277th in scoring defense, 210th in defensive FG%, and 258th in turnover margin. Texas State has a defense that ranks 8th in scoring defense, however, the Bobcats can have a real hard time scoring the basketball at times and come into this game ranked 321st in scoring offense and 294th in 3P-FG%. Appalachian State had a great scorer in Ronshad Shabazz and as I think the Mountaineers will be able to put up about 60-65 points against the Bobcats defense, I just don’t think the Texas State offense will be able to do enough to cover this spread. Take Appalachian State and the points.
