The Youngstown State Penguins lost their 3rd straight game and dropped to 6-18 (4-7 Horizon) on the season after being defeated by the Northern Kentucky Norse, 95-85, this past Thursday. Youngstown State had no answers for the Norse offense in this one and couldn’t pull off the upset after Northern Kentucky took a 74-62 lead midway through the 2nd half. Youngstown State allowed Northern Kentucky to shoot 59.6% from the field and 52.6% (10-19) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Penguins was Braun Hartfield who had 23 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. On the season, Youngstown State is averaging 75.3 ppg on 43.4% shooting from the field. The Penguins are averaging 7.5 three-pointers per game on 34.2% shooting from beyond the arc. The Wright State Raiders has their 2-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 17-7 (9-2 Horizon) on the season after being upset by the Cleveland State Vikings, 77-74, this past Thursday. Wright State fought back from a 15-point 2nd half deficit to make it a close game late, however, couldn’t avoid the upset after the Vikings took a 74-69 lead with 1:26 left in regulation. Wright State allowed Cleveland State to shoot 49.0% from the field and 43.8% (14-32) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Raiders was London Love who had a double-double with 20 points, 12 rebounds, 1 assist, and 3 blocks. On the season, Wright State is averaging 71.8 ppg on 43.9% shooting from the field. The Raiders are averaging 6.7 three-pointers per game on 34.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Wright State has been led by Grant Benzinger (14.5 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 1.1 apg), Loudon Love (12.2 ppg, 9.4 rpg, 1.1 bpg), Justin Mitchell (11.1 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 3.1 apg, 1.9 spg), and Cole Gentry (9.4 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 2.8 apg, 1.3 spg). Defensively, Wright State is holding their opponents to an average of 65.8 ppg on 41.9% shooting from the field. The Raiders have a rebound margin of 2.3 and a turnover margin of 2.5. Justin Mitchell currently questionable for this matchup.
The Penguins are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games overall and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record. The Raiders are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS loss however, are just 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.
Youngstown State has lost 7 of their last 8 games and although the Penguins play an up-tempo style of play which allowed them to score the points, Youngstown State hasn’t been able to stop anyone on the defensive end as they currently rank 339th in scoring defense and 351st in defensive FG%. Wright State will have to have a short memory after losing to Cleveland State on Thursday and will hope that their defense that ranks 38th in scoring defense and 80th in defensive FG% can get on track. Wright State always seem to have a few games per season which you just can’t explain, however, the Raiders are one of better teams in the Horizon this season and as I think they’ll bounce back in big way in this one, I’m taking Wright State to cover this road spread.
