We have some MAAC-tion on tap Monday evening, as the Siena Saints take on the Fairfield Stags in a college basketball matchup.
The Siena Saints will look to turn things around after losing 12 of their last 17 games following a 51-47 defeat at the hands of Manhattan in their last outing. Kadeem Smithen led the Saints with 18 points on 4 of 9 shooting with 3 triples and a pair of steals, while Evan Fished added 10 points as the only other Siena player to score in double figures in the loss. Prince Oduro added 6 points with a team-high 12 rebounds, while Ahsante Shivers dished out a team-leading 3 assists in the losing effort. Roman Penn didn’t play in the losing effort, but still leads Siena with an average of 9.7 points and 3 assists per game while the aforementioned Oduro is the Saints’ top rebounder with 4.9 boards per game this season. The Fairfield Stags will be looking to build on back-to-back wins following a 79-78 road win over Monmouth in their last outing. Tyler Nelson led Fairfield with a game-high 26 points on 9 of 16 shooting with 5 threes and a share of the team-high with 3 assists. Jesus Cruz came 2nd with 13 points on 5 of 12 shooting with a pair of threes while Ferron Flavors Jr. added 10 points with 5 boards to round out the trio of double digit scorers for Fairfield in the win. Jonathan Kasibabu also chipped in 9 points to match his game-high 9 rebounds along with 3 assists in the winning effort for the Stags. Nelson leads Fairfield this season with an average of 21.5 points and 3.3 assists per game, while Kasibabu is the Stags’ top rebounder with 5.2 boards per game. As a team, Fairfield is putting up 75.1 points per game on 44% shooting from the field, 33.6% from behind the arc and 71.6% from the foul line this season.
Siena is 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games against a team with a losing record and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall while the under is 6-1-1 in their last 8 road games. Fairfield is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 conference matchups while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games overall. Siena is 8-3-1 ATS in the last 12 meetings between these two teams at Fairfield.
I think it’s safe to say that Fairfield is the better team here, but not by double digits in my opinion, considering that the last 5 meetings have either resulted in a Siena win or a single digit loss. Add in Siena’s success over the years when playing in the Stags’ gym, I think the points are the way to go here as Fairfield is just laying way too many points in this spot.
