Out at Koessler Athletic Center on Thursday, the Siena Saints and the Canisius Golden Griffins will be meeting up on the college basketball court.
Siena is currently sitting at 7-18 on the season. The Saints have lost four of their last five games, including Monday’s defeat by Fairfield. In that one, Siena guard Khalil Richard led the team on 16 points.
USA TODAY Sports
Nico Clareth is the only Saints player averaging in double-digits this year with 15.1 PPG and 3.4 RPG. That said, Roman Penn (9.7 PPG; 4.9 RPG; 3.0 APG) and Ahsante Shivers (9.2 PPG; 4.2 RPG) are close to that threshold for Siena.
Over on the Canisius side, they’re coming in at 15-9 this year. The Griffins have won six of their last seven games, and took out Saint Peter’s on Sunday. In that game, Canisius guard Isaiah Reese tallied 15 points.
Jermaine Crumpton is the leading scorer for the Griffins this year on 16.6 PPG with 5.3 RPG, and Reese is second with 16.5 PPG, 5.6 RPG and 4.8 APG. Also in double-figures for Canisius is Tikal Molson with 13.0 PPG and 5.0 RPG.
The Saints are 2-5 ATS in their last seven Thursday games and 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a straight-up loss. Siena is also 1-6 ATS in the last seven games overall and 0-4 ATS in their last four road games.
Meanwhile, Canisius is 9-1-1 ATS in their last 11 home games and 4-1 ATS in the last five following a straight-up win. The Griffins are also 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 overall and 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 versus the Metro Atlantic Athletic.
There’s not a whole lot to get excited about when it comes to Siena, and they haven’t been scoring well lately at all. The Saints haven’t reached 70 points in any of their last nine outings. The last meeting at Siena between these two teams was a 65-62 Saints victory. Canisius is playing much better lately however and I think they’ll get some revenge at home here. I’ll take the Griffins.
