The Chattanooga Mocs lost their 2nd consecutive game and dropped to 8-17 (2-10 Southern) on the season after being defeated by the East Tennessee State Buccaneers, 81-61, this past Saturday. Chattanooga struggled on both ends of the court against East Tennessee State and couldn’t fight back after the Buccaneers took a 53-34 lead with 13:43 left in the 2nd half. Chattanooga shot just 39.0% from the field and 26.3% (5-19) from beyond the arc while allowing the Buccaneers to shoot 56.7% from the field. Leading the way for the Mocs was Rodney Chatman who had 26 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 steals. On the season, Chattanooga is averaging 69.8 ppg on 43.6% shooting from the field. The Mocs are averaging 8.6 three-pointers per game on 35.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Chattanooga has been led by Nat Dixon (14.9 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1.0 spg), Makinde London (13.6 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 1.9 apg), Rodney Chatman (12.9 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 4.6 apg, 1.2 spg), and Makale Foreman (9.2 ppg, 1.7 rpg, 2.1 apg). Defensively, Chattanooga is allowing their opponents to average 72.5 ppg on 47.5% shooting from the field. The Mocs have a rebound margin of -2.0 and a turnover margin of -0.2.
The Bulldogs are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 7-1-1 ATS in their last 9 games following a ATS win. The Mocs are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up loss and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
The Citadel come into this matchup playing their best basketball of the season as the Bulldogs have 3 of their last 4 games with their only loss coming by a 2-point margin against the top team in the Southern Conference in ETSU. The Citadel like to play a up tempo style of game and as they rank 16th in scoring offense and 3rd in three-pointers made per game, however, at the same rank just 350th in scoring defense and 332nd in defensive FG% Chattanooga had loss 11 of their last 13 games and haven’t been overly impressive on either side of the ball as the Mocs rank 276th in scoring offense and 180th in scoring defense. The Citadel is just 2-9 on the road, however, it’s hard to ignore how well they’ve played as of late and as I certainly can’t trust the Chattanooga offense to have success against the Bulldogs, I’m going to take The Citadel and the points in this one.
