Charlotte gave Middle Tennessee more of a battle than expected, however, couldn’t pull off the upset after the Blue Raiders pulled away after a Tyrik Dixon three-pointer gave Middle Tennessee a 76-70 lead with 1:10 left in regulation. Charlotte shot 53.1% from the field however, was outrebounded by the Blue Raiders by a 37-21 margin in the loss. The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs had their 4-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 14-10 (5-6 C-USA) on the season after being defeating the FIU Golden Panthers, 71-68, this past Saturday. Louisiana Tech held a late 68-65 lead with just 10 seconds left however, allowed FIU’s Brian Beard Jr. to hit two three-pointers in the final 3 seconds of regulation for FIU to pull out the dramatic victory. Louisiana Tech shot 43.9% from the field and 27.3% (6-22) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Amorie Archibald who had 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists. On the season, Louisiana Tech is averaging 77.0 ppg on 45.6% shooting from the field. The Bulldogs are averaging 8.3 three-pointers per game on 38.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Louisiana Tech has been led by Jalen Harris (15.3 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 2.4 apg, 1.1 spg), DaQuan Bracey (14.8 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 4.7 apg, 1.0 spg), Jacobi Boykins (14.5 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.0 spg), and Derric Jean (9.4 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 1.6 apg). The 49ers are 8-23 ATS in their last 31 road games and just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Bulldogs are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400 however, are just 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
Charlotte has struggled on both ends of the ball this season, ranking just 270th in scoring offense and 285th in scoring defense, however, the 49ers played better in their recent 3-game home stretch as they lost to three of the top teams in the C-USA(Old Dominion, UAB, MTSU) by just an average of 6.4 ppg. Louisiana Tech has had an up and down season, however, the Bulldogs are a balanced team that has been led by their offense that ranks 102nd scoring offense, 130th in FG%, and 58th in 3P-FG%. Charlotte is just 2-8 on the road this season, however, I was impressed how the 49ers shot over 50% against a very good Middle Tennessee defense and as I just think this is too many points, I’m taking Charlotte in this one. Take Charlotte and the points.
