Down at Vadalabene Center on Thursday, the Eastern Illinois Panthers and the SIU Edwardsville Cougars will be meeting up in college basketball action.
Eastern Illinois enters this game with an 8-13 record overall. The Panthers had lost four straight games but won their last outing versus Tennessee Tech. In that one, Eastern Illinois guard Mack Smith managed 31 points.
USA TODAY Sports
Leading the way for the Panthers in scoring is Montell Goodwin with 14.3 PPG, 3.2 RPG and 2.8 APG. Also in double-digits for Eastern Illinois are Smith (10.5 PPG) and Jajuan Starks (10.3 PPG).
Over on the SIUE side, they’re sitting at 8-15 on the year. The Cougars had lost five straight but got a win over Jacksonville State Saturday. In that game, SIU Edwardsville’s David McFarland managed 15 points.
Heading up the scoring for SIU Edwardsville this season is Jalen Henry with 15.9 PPG and 7.1 RPG. Also in double-digits is Daniel Kinchen (12.3 PPG), and Christian Ellis is close with 9.0 PPG and 4.7 RPG.
The Panthers are 6-14 ATS in the last 20 games overall and 2-5 ATS in the last seven Thursday games. EIU is also 1-7 ATS in their last eight following an ATS win and 2-6 ATS in the last eight following a straight-up win.
Meanwhile, the Cougars are 7-17-1 ATS in their last 25 home games and 1-6 ATS in the last seven games following a straight-up win. The under is 5-2 in the Cougars’ last seven overall and 5-2 in their last seven versus the Ohio Valley.
The Panthers are a fairly well-rounded team on offense, so it’s a little odd how they scored a max of 59 points during a three-game stretch late last month. The Cougars haven’t been scoring that well lately either, but they did put up 75 points in their last game. Still, I’m more comfortable with Eastern Illinois here.
