San Francisco struggled offensively against Portland, however, took a 40-32 lead midway through the 2nd half and held off a late Portland charge to secure the victory. San Francisco shot just 40.4% from the field and 21.1% (4-19) from beyond the arc in the win. Leading the way for the Dons was Nate Renfro who had 12 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and a block. USA TODAY Sports

The BYU Cougars snapped their 2-game losing streak and improved to 19-7 (8-5 WCC) on the season after defeating the Santa Clara Broncos, 80-58, this past Thursday. BYU was outstanding on the offensive end throughout the game and pulled away in the 2nd half after a 13-0 Cougars run gave BYU a 63-45 lead with 8:44 left in regulation. BYU shot 58.6% from the field and outrebounded Santa Clara by a 37-27 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Cougars was Yoeli Childs who had a double-double with 20 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and a block. On the season, BYU is averaging 74.8 ppg on 49.5% shooting from the field. The Cougars are averaging 6.8 three-pointers per game on 36.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, BYU has been led by Elijah Bryant (17.7 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 2.5 apg, 1.2 spg), Yoeli Childs (17.6 ppg, 8.8 rpg, 2.4 apg), TJ Haws (12.0 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 4.2 apg, 1.3 spg), and Jahshire Hardnett (6.0 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 2.3 apg). Defensively, BYU is holding their opponents to an average of 65.5 ppg on 44.4% shooting from the field. The Cougars have a rebound margin of 2.9 and a turnover margin of 0.5.

The Dons are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games following an ATS loss however, just 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Cougars are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 home games and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games overall.

San Francisco has been decent on the defensive end this season as they come into this matchup ranked 66th in scoring defense, however, it’s been a struggle offensively for the Dons throughout the season as they currently rank just 296th in scoring offense and 309th in FG%. BYU has lost 3 of their last 5 games, however, the Cougars have been solid on both sides of the ball this season as they currently rank 32nd in scoring defense and 18th in FG%. BYU defeated San Francisco on the road earlier this season by a 10-point margin and as I just don’t see the Dons offense finding any success against the Cougars defense on the road, I think BYU pulls away in the 2nd half in this one and covers this spread. Take BYU to cover.
