We have some college basketball action out of the SoCon on Saturday afternoon, as the Wofford Terriers pay a visit to the Furman Paladins.
The Wofford Terriers will try to find some measure of consistency after splitting their last 6 games, including a 92-79 win over Samford in their last outing. Fletcher Magee led the Terriers with 27 points on 10 of 17 shooting with 4 triples along with 5 assists and 3 steals. Nathan Hoover came 2nd with 23 points on 8 of 12 shooting with 5 triples, while Trevor Stumpe added 16 points with a team-high 7 rebounds. Cameron Jackson and Storm Murphy each added 10 points to round out the scoring in double figures for Wofford in the win, with Jackson going a perfect 5 of 5 from the floor in 12 minutes, while Murphy dished out a team-high 6 assists. Magee leads Wofford in scoring with 22.6 points per game, while Jackson is the Terriers’ top rebounder with 5.7 rebounds per game and Murphy is the team’s top assist man with 3.8 assists per game this season. As a team, Wofford is scoring 77.5 points per game on 47.7% shooting from the field while boasting the nation’s 5th-best 3-point percentage at 42.1% along with a 77.4% mark from the foul line this season.

The Furman Paladins will be looking to rebound from back-to-back conference losses, including an 80-67 setback at the hands of UNC-Greensboro in their last outing. Andrew Brown led Furman with 15 points on 5 of 7 shooting with 4 threes and 3 steals while Daniel Fowler added 12 points as the only other Paladin to score in double figures in the losing effort. Matt Rafferty added 8 points with a team-high 5 rebounds, while Devin Sibley added 6 points in the loss. Despite the off night offensively, Sibley leads Furman in scoring with 15.3 points per game while Rafferty leads the Paladins in rebounding with 7.4 boards per game and Fowler is Furman’s top assist man with 3 assists per game this season. As a team, Furman is scoring 79.7 points per game on 46.5% shooting from the field, 35.4% from behind the arc and 71.4% from the foul line this season.
Wofford is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 games overall. Furman is 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 home games while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 conference matchups. Wofford is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
This is a massive game for positioning in the SoCon with the conference tournament just a few weeks away. However, as good as Furman have been at home, I’m a little bit worried how they’ll fare against an equally good Terriers team that’s had success in this matchup. All in all, I think the Terriers have enough to at the least keep this one close, so I’ll take Wofford and the points here.
