Coming up from Walter Pyramid on Saturday, the Cal Poly Mustangs and the Long Beach State 49ers will be meeting up in college basketball activity.
Cal Poly comes in here with an 8-16 record overall. The Mustangs had won two straight games but dropped to CS Fullerton on Thursday. In that one, Cal Poly’s Victor Joseph put up 16 points to lead the team.
USA TODAY Sports
Tops in scoring for Cal Poly is Donovan Fields with 14.1 PPG, 3.2 RPG and 4.3 APG to his name this year. The only other player in double-digits is Joseph, with 13.9 PPG, 2.4 RPG and 1.8 APG for the Mustangs.
Over on the Long Beach State side, they’re sitting at 12-14 this year. The 49ers have lost their last two games, falling to UC Irvine and UC Davis. In last Saturday’s game, Long Beach State forward Gabe Levin put up a whopping 45 points.
Levin is the leading scorer for Long Beach State this season with 18.0 PPG and 7.1 RPG. Also in double-digits for the Niners are Bryan Alberts (12.4 PPG) and Deishuan Booker (10.1 PPG; 5.0 APG).
The Mustangs are 23-48-2 ATS in their last 78 ames overall and 16-37-2 ATS in their last 55 versus the Big West. Cal Poly is also 1-4-2 ATS in their last seven following an ATS loss and 0-7-2 ATS in the last nine road games.
Meanwhile, Long Beach State is 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games versus a team with a losing road record and 5-1 ATS in their last six after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game. The over is 5-1-1 in the 49ers’ last seven versus a team with a losing straight-up record and the under is 27-12 in their last 39 Saturday games.
LBSU’s last game was a 2OT affair that ended in a 105-104 shootout. That continues a good trend of scoring for the Niners, who have at least 81 points in three of their last five games. The last time these teams met January 25 it was an 87-71 LBSU victory at Cal Poly. I don’t think the Mustangs offense can keep up here either so I’m going with the Niners to cover.
