The Line: Manhattan Jaspers PK -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
We have some MAAC-tion on the college basketball slate Saturday night when the Monmouth Hawks take on the Manhattan Jaspers.
The Monmouth Hawks will be looking to build some steam after a 72-50 road win over Iona in their last outing snapped a 3 game losing streak. Louie Pillari led Monmouth with 21 points on 7 of 14 shooting with 4 threes and 6 rebounds as the only Monmouth player to score in double figures in the win. Diago Quinn added 6 rebounds of his own, while Malik Martin and Austin Tilghman tied for the team-high with 5 assists apiece. Deion Hammond added 8 points in 19 minutes, but still leads Monmouth in scoring with 11.8 points per game while Tilghman is the Hawks’ top assist man and rebounder with 5.7 assists and 6.3 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Monmouth is scoring 75.8 points per game on 46.1% shooting from the field, 38.9% from behind the arc and 70.9% from the foul line this season.
USA TODAY Sports
The Manhattan Jaspers could use a win here after losing 4 of their last 5 games following a 77-73 setback at the hands of Rider in their last outing. Zane Waterman led the Jaspers with 16 points along with a team-high 7 rebounds, while Rich Williams came right behind in 2nd with 15 points on 6 of 10 shooting with 3 threes. Zavier Turner added 12 points with a team-high 5 assists while Calvin Crawford added 11 points with 3 steals to round out the quartet of double digit scorers for Manhattan in the losing effort. Williams leads Manhattan in scoring with 13 points per game while Waterman leads the Jaspers in rebounding with 6.5 boards per game and Turner is the team’s leading assist man with 3.8 assists per game this season. As a team, Manhattan is scoring 67 points per game on 43.9% shooting from the field, 38.7% from behind the arc and 68.3% from the foul line this season.
Monmouth is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following a game where they covered the spread and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a win of 20+ points while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games against a team with a losing record. Manhattan is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 28-9-2 in their last 39 games overall. Monmouth is 1-7 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two teams.
Monmouth has to be feeling good about themselves after taking it to Iona who is one of the best that the MAAC has to offer. However, the Hawks aren’t a very good road team and while Manhattan has struggled at home, Monmouth is worse on the road and since the line is a a pick ‘em, given the Hawks’ struggles ATS in this matchup, I’ll back Manhattan at home here.
