We’ve got a fun college basketball matchup looming Saturday evening as the Gonzaga Bulldogs and the Saint Mary’s Gaels meet at McKeon Pavilion.
Gonzaga enters this one with a 22-4 record overall. The Bulldogs have won their last six straight games, including Thursday’s matchup versus Pacific. In that one, Gonzaga forward Killian Tillie put up 21 points.
USA TODAY Sports
Johnathan Williams is the lead scorer for the Bulldogs with 13.5 PPG and 7.6 RPG, and Josh Perkins is second with 13.2 PPG. Also in double-figures for Gonzaga are Tillie (12.5 PPG), Zach Norvell (11.7 PPG), Rui Hachimura (11.1 PPG) and Silas Melson (10.0 PPG).
As for Saint Mary’s, they’re sitting at 24-2 on the season. The Gaels have a stellar 19-game win streak under their belt, and took out Loyola Marymount on Thursday. In that one, Saint Mary’s center Jock Landale managed 21 points.
Landale is also the leading scorer on the year for the Gaels, with 22.7 PPG and 10.7 RPG. Also in double-figures for Saint Mary’s are Calvin Hermann (11.5 PPG) and Emmett Naar (10.6 PPG).
The Bulldogs are 0-4-1 ATS in their last five Saturday games and 0-7 ATS in their last seven games following an ATS loss. Gonzaga is also 0-4-1 ATS in the last five road games and 0-8 ATS in the last eight games overall.
Meanwhile, the Gaels are 13-5-2 ATS in their last 20 versus the West Coast and 9-4-1 ATS in their last 14 games overall. Saint Mary’s is also 3-7-1 ATS in the last 11 games following an ATS win and 1-4 ATS in the last five Saturday games.
Gonzaga has some big-time scorers on their roster, but they’ve had a few offensive lulls lately. After failing to reach 70 points versus San Diego and BYU, the Bulldogs hung just 71 on Pacific (it should be noted, however, that Gonzaga won each of those three games by at least eight points). Saint Mary’s, meanwhile, has been cruising along lately but has had a few close calls. The last game between these two was a 74-71 Saint Mary’s win, but I think Gonzaga can get some revenge here and cover.
