The Samford Bulldogs snapped their 3-game losing streak and improved to 9-18 (5-9 Southern) on the season after defeating The Citadel Bulldogs, 116-103, this past Saturday. Samford had no trouble putting up a ton of points on The Citadel defense and pulled away after taking a 90-72 lead with 11:48 left in regulation. Samford shot 67.8 ppg on 64.0% shooting from the field. Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Alex Thompson who had 24 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, and a steal. On the season, Samford is averaging 77.5 ppg on 47.0% shooting from the field. The Bulldogs are averaging 9.2 three-pointers per game on 37.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Samford has been led by Demetrius Dyson (15.1 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 1.1 apg, 1.1 spg), Justin Coleman (13.8 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 6.1 apg, 1.1 spg), Alex Thompson (11.4 ppg, 3.8 rpg), and Eric Adams (9.2 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.2 spg, 1.3 bpg). Defensively, Samford is allowing their opponents to average 81.9 ppg on 49.1% shooting from the field. The Bulldogs have a rebound margin of -5.2 and a turnover margin of 0.7.
The Bears are 5-11-1 ATS in their last 17 games overall and just 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 road games. The Bulldogs are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 home games vs. a team with a losing road record and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games.
Mercer has played better as of late after recently dropping four straight games and come into this one ranked 123rd in scoring offense and 100th in scoring defense. Samford has lost 8 of their last 10 games and although they have an offense that can really put up points in bunches, the Bulldogs defense has been nonexistent this season as they currently rank 335th in scoring defense and 340th in defensive FG%. Mercer has been great ATS on the road as of the late, however, as the Bears offense had no trouble putting up points in their 31-point victory at home earlier this season, I think Mercer will be able to do enough on the road to cover this spread. Take Mercer to cover.
