The Saint Peter’s Peacocks dropped to 10-15 (4-10 MAAC) on the season after being defeated by the Iona Gaels, 86-77, this past Saturday. Saint Peter’s defense had no answers for the Iona offense in the 2nd half and couldn’t fight back after the Gaels took a 66-55 lead midway through the 2nd half. Saint Peter’s allowed Iona to shoot 54.9% from the field and 42.9% (9-21) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Peacocks was Sam Idowu who had a double-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds, 1 assist, and a steal. On the season, Saint Peter’s is averaging 66.9 ppg on 42.1% shooting from the field. The Peacocks are averaging 8.0 three-pointers per game on 34.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensviely, Saint Peter’s has been led by Nick Griffin (13.2 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 1.3 apg), Davauhnte Turner (12.3 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1.1 spg), Sam Idowu (11.0 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 1.0 bpg), and Quinn Taylor (6.9 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 1.8 apg, 1.0 spg). The Monmouth Hawks dropped to 8-17 (4-9 MAAC) on the season after being defeated by the Manhattan Jaspers, 93-76, this past Saturday. Monmouth had a slight lead midway through the 2nd half in this one, however, couldn’t fight back after a 22-4 Jaspers run gave Manhattan a 78-60 lead with just 5:20 left in regulation. Monmouth allowed Manhattan to shoot 51.1% from the field and 50.0% (14-28) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Hawks was Deion Hammond who had 19 points, 4 rebounds, and a steal. On the season, Monmouth is averaging 75.8 ppg on 46.0% shooting from the field. The Hawks are averaging 7.1 three-pointers per game on 38.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensviely, Monmouth has been led by Micah Seaborn (13.7 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 1.9 apg), Deion Hammond (12.1 ppg, 2.2 rpg), Austin Tilghman (11.1 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 5.5 apg, 1.2 spg), and Ray Salnave (9.4 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 1.5 apg, 1.3 spg). Defensively, Monmouth is allowing their opponents to average 77.7 ppg on 43.2% shooting from the field. The Hawks have a rebound margin of 1.0 and a turnover margin of -2.3. Micah Seaborn, who had missed the last 5 games due to a hamstring injury, is currently listed as questionable for this matchup.
The Peacocks are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 Tuesday games however, are just 2-6 ATS I their last 8 road games. The Hawks are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 home games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
Saint Peter’s has lost 8 of their last 10 games and although their defense has played well as they rank T-67th in scoring defense, the Peacocks have really struggled on the offensive side of the ball as they rank just 313th in scoring offense and 302nd in FG%. Monmouth has lost 4 of their last 5 and haven’t great defensively as they rank just 299th in scoring defense, 313th in assist/turnover ratio, and T-310th in turnover margin. Saint Peter’s needs to keep their games low scoring to give them a chance, however, as I think the Hawks at home will find some success, especially if Micah Seaborn is able to give it a go, I’m leaning towards taking a Monmouth to cover this home spread.
