We have some SEC college basketball action on Wednesday night as the Kentucky Wildcats face off against the #10 Auburn Tigers.
The Kentucky Wildcats desperately need a win here after losing 3 straight, including an 85-74 loss to Texas A&M in their last outing. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led Kentucky with 19 points on 9 of 12 shooting with a team-high 8 assists with a pair of steals and a pair of blocks. Kevin Knox came 2nd with 18 points on 7 of 15 shooting with 3 threes and 4 assists, while Hamidou Diallo added 13 points to round out the trio of double digit scorers for Kentucky in the loss, while PJ Washington added 5 points with a team-high 8 rebounds in the losing effort. Knox leads the Wildcats with an average of 15 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, while Gilgeous-Alexander is Kentucky’s top assist man with 4.6 assists per game this season. As a team, Kentucky is scoring 76 points per game on 46.6% shooting from the field, 33.3% from behind the arc and 68.7% from the foul line this season.

The #10 Auburn Tigers will look for another win to remain atop the SEC standings after a 78-61 road win over Georgia last time out. Jared Harper led Auburn with 24 points on 8 of 13 shooting with 4 triples and a team-high 7 assists with a pair of steals. Mustapha Heron added 19 points on 8 of 14 shooting as the only other Auburn player to score in double figures, while DeSean Murray pulled down a team-high 7 rebounds in the winning effort for the Tigers. Bryce Brown missed the last game with a shoulder injury but is expected to suit up for this one and leads Auburn with an average of 16.6 points per game while Murray leads the Tigers with 6.9 rebounds per game and Harper leads the way with 6 assists per game. As a team, Auburn is scoring the 8th-most points per game in the country with 85.5 points per game on 45.8% shooting from the field, 39% from behind the arc and 77.7% from the foul line this season.
Kentucky is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games following a loss while the under is 11-5 in their last 16 road games. Auburn is 6-1 ATS in their last 7 conference matchups and 16-5 ATS in their last 21 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 17-7 in their last 24 home games. Kentucky is 3-7-1 ATS in the last 11 meetings between these two teams.
I never thought I’d say this coming into the season, but Kentucky is in some serious trouble here, as these young Wildcats haven’t been able to handle the pressure like teams past. Auburn is by far the surprise of the SEC this season, and have had the majority of success ATS when these two meet, so I’ll back Auburn here to win this one by double digits. I need to see something from Kentucky before I can instill any confidence in them.
