The Vanderbilt Commodores will look for another win to try to get out of the basement in the SEC standings after a 72-54 loss to Arkansas in their last outing. No Commodore hit double figures in scoring, with Jeff Roberson, Maxwell Evans, Riley LaChance and Saben Lee tying for the team lead with 8 points. Roberson shot a paltry 2 of 10 from the floor, while Evans went 0 of 6 from the floor but made up for it by going 8 of 9 from the foul line with a team-high 9 rebounds. Roberson leads Vanderbilt with an average of 16 points and 7 rebounds per game while Lee is the Commodores’ top assist man with 3.1 assists per game this season. As a team, Vanderbilt is scoring 71.8 points per game on 43% shooting from the field, 32.8% from behind the arc and 74.3% from the foul line this season.
Mississippi State is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 5-2 in their last 7 games following a loss. Vanderbilt is 3-11 ATS in their last 14 games following a loss and 6-18 ATS in their last 24 games overall while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 home games. Mississippi State is 5-1-1 ATS in the last 7 meetings at Vanderbilt and 15-5-3 ATS in the last 23 meetings overall between these two teams.
Okay, I know Mississippi State is a far different team on the road than they are at home, and Vanderbilt is a solid team on their own floor. However, I have zero idea why Vanderbilt is favored here. There’s no shame in Mississippi State losing on the road at Missouri, as the Tigers are a much improved team over last year and although Vanderbilt notched a win over Georgia in their last home game, the fact is that Vandy is still getting pummelled ATS and haven’t done much in terms of covering the spread at home. Add in the Bulldogs’ success ATS in this matchup, and I think the points are a lock in a game that I have Mississippi State winning outright.
