We have some A-10 action on the hardwood Wednesday night as the Davidson Wildcats take on the VCU Rams in a college basketball matchup.
The Davidson Wildcats will look to rebound after having their 3 game winning streak snapped thanks to a 72-59 loss to Rhode Island in their last outing. Kellan Grady led the Wildcats with 19 points on 8 of 14 shooting while Peyton Aldridge added 15 points as the only other Davidson player to score in double figures along with a team-high 5 rebounds and a pair of blocks. Jon Axel Gudmundsson added a team-high 5 assists as well in the losing effort. Aldridge leads Davidson with an average of 20 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, while Gudmundsson leads the Wildcats with 5 assists per game. As a team, Davidson is scoring 76 points per game on 47.8% shooting from the field, 38.6% from behind the arc and 77.7% from the foul line this season.

The VCU Rams will look to build some steam after snapping a mini 2 game slide with an 88-84 overtime win over Dayton in their last outing. Justin Tillman led VCU with a game-high 37 points on 17 of 25 shooting with a team-high 8 rebounds, while Issac Vann added 10 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals as the only other Ram to score in double digits in the win. Sean Mobley added 8 points with 5 boards, 4 assists and 3 steals while Jonathan Williams contributed 8 points of his own with a team-high 5 assists in the winning effort. Tillman leads VCU with an average of 19.2 points and 9.4 rebounds per game, while Williams is the Rams’ top assist man with 5.7 assists per game this season. As a team, VCU is scoring 77.4 points per game on 45.9% shooting from the field, 35.1% from behind the arc and 71.4% from the foul line this season.
Davidson is 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games overall while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record. VCU is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 home games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games against a team with a losing road record while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games overall. The under is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
I know Davidson had been in better form before their loss to Rhode Island, and there’s nothing wrong with a road loss to URI as Rhode Island has been the best in the A-10 this season. However, this line is showing absolutely no respect to VCU. The Rams are a solid team at home and are still a top 4 team in the conference right alongside Davidson. Home court has to count for something, so I’ll take the free bucket with the Rams here.
