The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos will travel to Walter Pyramid to take on the Long Beach State 49ers this Thursday night in College Basketball action.

The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos won their 7th straight game and improved to 19-5 (8-2 Big West) on the season after defeating the UC Davis Aggies, 90-81, this past Thursday. UC Santa Barbara was outstanding against the generally tough UC Davis defense and had no problem cruising to victory after taking a 49-37 halftime lead. UC Santa Barbara shot 55.6% from the field and 55.0% (11-20) from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Gauchos was Leland King II who had a double-double with 19 points, 15 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals. On the season, UC Santa Barbara is averaging 78.0 ppg on 47.1% shooting from the field. The Gauchos are averaging 8.0 three-pointers per game on 38.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, UC Santa Barbara has been led by Max Heidegger (20.8 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 2.6 apg), Leland King II (16.3 ppg, 10.8 rpg, 1.5 apg), Jalen Canty (12.9 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 2.0 bpg), and Gabe Vincent (11.2 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 3.5 apg, 1.0 spg). Jalen Canty is currently questionable for the matchup as he is listed as “out indefinitely” due to a violation of team rules.

Long Beach State vs. UC-Santa Barbara - 2/15/18 College Basketball Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Long Beach State 49ers snapped a 2-game losing streak and improved to 13-14 (7-4 Big West) on the season after defeating the Cal Poly Mustangs, 73-54, this past Thursday. Long Beach State had one of their best defensive performances of the season and pulled away from Cal Poly in the 2nd half after taking a 60-46 lead with just 3:34 left in regulation. Long Beach State held Cal Poly to just 30.4% shooting from the field and 18.5% (5-27) shooting from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the 49ers was Gave Levin who had a double-double with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and an assist. On the season, Long Beach State is averaging 76.3 ppg on 45.6% shooting from the field. The 49ers are averaging 6.1 three-pointers per game on 35.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensviely, Long Beach State has bene led by Gabe Levin (18.1 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.0 spg), Bryan Alberts (12.3 ppg, 1.7 rpg, 1.1 apg), Deishuan Booker (10.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 5.0 apg, 1.4 apg), Temidayo Yussif (9.5 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 1.4 apg). Defensively, Long Beach State is allowing their opponents to average 79.5 ppg on 446.5% shooting from the field. The 49ers have a rebound margin of 1.1 and a turnover margin of -1.9.

The Gauchos are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and 9-2 ATS in their last 11 road games. The 49ers are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and just 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games following an ATS win.

UC Santa Barbara has won 11 of their last 13 games and has been the best team in the Big West this season led by their offense that ranks 75th in scoring offense, 57th in FG%, and 45th in 3P-FG%. Long Beach State has played better as of late, winning 4 of their last 6 games, however, the 49ers have really struggled defensively this season as they come into this matchup ranked just 322nd in scoring defense and 297th in defensive FG%. I expect this game to be a high scoring affair as the 49ers have some solid offensive weapons that should have some success against the Gauchos defense and as Long Beach State is 7-4 at home this with their two conference losses coming in close, competitive games against UC Irvine and UC Davis, I’m taking the Long Beach State at home with the point.
