Down at Fant-Ewing Coliseum on Saturday, the Texas State Bobcats and the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks will be matching up on the college basketball court.
Texas State enters this game with a 14-13 record overall. The Bobcats have lost their last five straight games, dropping one on Thursday to Louisiana. In that one, Texas State guard Nijal Pearson put up 19 points.
USA TODAY Sports
Pearson is the top Texas State player in scoring this year with 14.4 PPG and 5.9 RPG with 2.1 APG. He’s the only Bobcats player in double-digits, but Immanuel King is close with 9.0 PPG and a team-high 6.0 RPG.
Over on the Louisiana-Monroe side, they’re sitting at 12-12 this year. The Warhawks have won five of their last six games, and took out UT Arlington on Thursday. In that game, UL Monroe guard Michael Ertel put up 20 points.
Sam McDaniel is the top scorer for the Warhawks with 16.0 PPG. Also in the double-digit club for UL-Monroe are Travis Munnings (15.5 PPG; 7.2 RPG), Ertel (11.0 PPG) and Marvin Jean-Pierre (10.3 PPG).
Texas State is 9-1-1 ATS in their last 11 road games and 15-7 ATS in their last 22 following a straight-up loss. The under is 6-2 in the Bobcats’ last eight overall and 6-2 in the last eight versus the Sun Belt.
Meanwhile, the Warhawks are 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall and 5-1 ATS in their last six versus the Sun Belt. Louisiana-Monroe is also 22-10 ATS in their last 32 home games and 2-6 ATS in the last eight Saturday games.
Texas State has been in a scoring slump lately—and for most of the year. The Bobcats haven’t scored more than 68 points in any of their last eight games, but he good news is that they’ve been reasonable on defense. UL Monroe lost 55-52 the last time these two teams met at Texas State, but the Warhawks are looking better since then. I’m going to take UL Monroe here.
