The Murray State Racers won their 8th straight game and improved to 21-5 (13-2 OVC) on the season after defeating the Jacksonville State Gamecocks, 68-60, this past Thursday. Murray State was solid on the defensive end against the Gamecocks and pulled away late in the 2nd half after taking a 55-47 lead with just under five minutes left in regulation. Murray State shot 434% from the field while holding Jacksonville State to just 9.1% (1-11) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Racers was Jonathan Stark who had 32 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 block, and a steal. On the season, Murray State is averaging 80.2 ppg on 49.1% shooting from the field. The Racers are averaging 8.6 three-pointers per game on 38.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Murray State has been led by Jonathan Stark (21.3 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 4.0 apg, 1.5 spg), Terrell Miller Jr. (15.0 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 1.5 apg), Ja Morant (12.4 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 6.5 apg, 1.0 spg), and Shaq Buchanan (9.1 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 1.1 apg, 1.3 spg). Defensively, Murray State is holding their opponents to an average of 66.3 ppg on 41.1% shooting from the field. The Racers have a rebound margin of 5.7 and a turnover margin of 1.1.
The Golden Eagles are just 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games following a straight up win and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Racers are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 Saturday games however, are just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games.
Tennessee Tech has won 4 of their last 7 games however, the Golden Eagles haven’t been anything amazing on either side of the ball this season as they come into this game ranked just 154th in scoring offense, 296th in FT%, and 219th in scoring defense. Murray State revenged an earlier season lost to Jacksonville State and looks like they are the favorite in the OVC this season as they currently rank 47th in scoring offense, 22nd in FG%, 40th in scoring defense, and 45th in defensive FG%. Tennessee Tech found some offensive answers in the recent victory however, the Golden Griffins were averaging just 67.4 ppg in their previous five games and as Murray State easily dominated Tennessee Tech in their 71-45 road victory in mid-January, I’m taking Murray State to cover this large home spread.
