We have some Summit league action on the hardwood as the IPFW Mastodons take on the North Dakota State Bison in a college basketball matchup on Saturday afternoon.
The IPFW Mastodons will look to find some measure of consistent play after splitting their last 12 games, including a 90-74 victory over Western Illinois in their last outing. Kason Harrell led the Mastodons with 20 points on 8 of 15 shooting with 3 threes, while John Konchar came right behind in 2nd with 19 points on 8 of 11 shooting along with 8 rebounds and a team-high 6 assists and 5 blocks. Bryson Scott also added 19 points while Xzavier Taylor added 11 points with a team-high 9 rebounds and Jordon King added 10 points on a perfect 3 of 3 shooting with a pair of threes and 6 rebounds in 10 minutes to round out the scoring in double figures for IPFW in the win. Scott leads the Mastodons with an average of 22.6 points per game while Konchar is IPFW’s leading rebounder and assist man with 8.1 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game this season. As a team, IPFW is scoring 81.8 points per game on 45.5% shooting from the field, 36.1% from behind the 3-point line and 71.2% from the foul line this season.

The North Dakota State Bison will be looking to pick up some steam after an 87-53 win over subdivision Mayville State in their last outing. Jared Samuelson led NDSU with 32 points on 10 of 15 shooting with 9 threes, while A.J. Jacobson added 12 points on a perfect 5 of 5 from the floor. Cameron Hunter added 11 points with a team-high 4 assists while Spencer Eliason added 10 points to round out the quartet of double digit scorers for the Bison in the win and Tyson Ward added 6 rebounds to lead North Dakota State on the glass in the win. Paul Miller missed the last game but still leads North Dakota State with an average of 19.2 points and 3.7 assists per game while the aforementioned Ward leads the Bison in rebounding with 6.1 rebounds per game this season. As a team, North Dakota State is scoring 74.4 points per game on 47% shooting from the field, 38% from behind the arc and 74.9% from the foul line this season.
IPFW is 5-23 ATS in their last 28 road games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following a win while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. North Dakota State is 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 3-12-1 ATS in their last 16 conference matchups while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 home games. IPFW is 15-4 ATS in the last 19 meetings between these two teams.
Neither of these teams are ones you’d probably want to back in this situation as IPFW have been dreadful ATS on the road dating back a couple of seasons, while North Dakota State has struggled overall as of late. With that said, I’m not reading anything into a win over a subdivision opponent for the Bison and while it hasn’t happened consistently, the Mastodons are winning games here and there and have had success ATS in this matchup, so I’ll take IPFW and the points in this one.
