The UNC Wilmington Seahawks improved to 9-18 (6-9 CAA) on the season after defeating the Elon Phoenix, 87-63, this past Thursday. UNC Wilmington dominated Elon on both ends of the court in this one and had no trouble securing the victory after taking a 54-36 halftime lead. UNC Wilmington shot 45.3% from the field and 50.0% (15-30) from beyond the arc while holding Elon to just 33.9% shooting from the field and 27.0% (10-37) from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Seahawks was Devontae Cacok who had a double-double with 17 points, 21 rebounds, 1 block, and a steal. On the season, UNC Wilmington is averaging 79.9 ppg on 43.8% shooting from the field. The Seahawks are averaging 7.7 three-pointers per game on 35.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, UNC Wilmington has been led by Devontae Cacok (17.4 ppg, 13.4 rpg, 1.0 apg), Jordon Talley (16.4 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 5.5 apg, 1.0 spg), Ty Taylor II (13.7 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 1.9 apg), and Jaylen Fornes (11.5 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 2.0 apg). Defensively, UNC Wilmington is allowing their opponents to average 82.8 ppg on 47.4% shooting from the field. The Seahawks have a rebound margin of 5.5 and a turnover margin of -1.7,
The Cougars are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss however, are just 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record. The Seahawks are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games.
College of Charleston has taken control of the CAA during their current winning streak and has been led by their defense that ranks 56th in scoring defense and 101st in defensive FG%. UNC Wilmington has played much better as of late and although their defense can still give up some points as the Seahawks currently rank just 341st in scoring defense, UNC Wilmington has been solid on of the offensive end as they currently rank 50th in scoring offense and t-70th in assists per game. UNCW had success putting up points against College of Charleston in their 4-point road loss earlier this season and as I think Devontae Cacok and the Seahawks offense will once again have success at home, I’m taking UNC Wilmington and the points in this one.
