We have some ACC-tion on the college basketball slate on Saturday afternoon as the NC State Wolfpack take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
The NC State Wolfpack will be looking to build some steam after a 74-70 road win over Syracuse in their last outing. Allerik Freeman led the Wolfpack with 17 points on 7 of 14 shooting with a pair of triples and a team-high 5 assists, while Markell Johnson added 16 points with 5 assists of his own and Sam Hunt chipped in 14 points on 5 of 7 shooting with 4 threes to round out the trio of double digit scorers for NC State in the win. The Wake Forest Demon Deacons will also be looking to build some momentum after snapping a 3 game losing streak with a 79-62 triumph over Georgia Tech in their last outing. Doral Moore led Wake Forest with 17 points on 8 of 11 shooting with 12 rebounds for the double-double, while Bryant Crawford came right behind in 2nd with 16 points on 5 of 9 shooting with a pair of threes and a team-high 9 assists. Mitchell Wilbekin and Brandon Childress each added 11 points to round out the quartet of double digit scorers for the Demon Deacons in the win, with Wilbekin shooting 4 of 7 from the floor with 3 triples. Crawford leads Wake Forest with an average of 16.5 points and 5.2 assists per game while Moore is the Demon Deacons’ top rebounder with 9.5 boards per game this season. As a team, Wake Forest is scoring 74.4 points per game on 44.7% shooting from the field, 39.2% from behind the arc and 73.6% from the foul line this season.
NC State is 6-18 ATS in their last 24 road games and 12-25-1 ATS in their last 38 conference matchups while the under is 9-3 in their last 12 road games. Wake Forest is 3-9 ATS in their last 12 conference matchups and 5-15-1 ATS in their last 21 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. NC State is 22-10-1 ATS in the last 33 meetings between these two teams.
Wake Forest may have put together a couple of wins lately, but the fact is that the Demon Deacons aren’t that good and I’m not reading too much into the win over Georgia Tech as the Yellow Jackets had just lost their top scorer. NC State isn’t much better on the road, but they need this win for seeding in the ACC standings with the conference tournament around the corner and have had a lot of success ATS in this matchup, so I’ll take the free point with the Wolfpack here.
