The Drake Bulldogs won their 3rd straight game and improved to 15-13 (9-6 MVC) on the season after defeating the Indiana State Sycamores, 90-76, this past Wednesday. Drake led by a 46-44 margin at halftime and pulled away in the 2nd half after taking a 69-58 lead midway through the 2nd half. Drake shot 53.6% from the field, 44.8% (13-29) from beyond the arc, and 81.0% (17-21) from the FT-line in the win. Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Reed Timmer who had 39 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. On the season, Drake is averaging 74.3 ppg on 44.9% shooting from the field. The Bulldogs are averaging 8.8 three-pointers per game on 37.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Drake has been led by Reed Timmer (19.1 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 2.5 apg), Nick McGlynn (11.8 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 1.1 apg), De’Antae McMurray (10.5 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 2.8 apg, 1.1 spg), and Graham Woodword (9.4 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 1.8 apg). The Missouri State Bears had their 2-game winning streak and dropped to 17-11 (7-8 MVC) on the season after being defeated by the Southern Illinois Salukis, 81-80 in OT, this past Wednesday. In a tight back and forth game, Missouri State couldn’t pull out the much-needed conference victory after the Salukis, Aaron Cook, hit two FT’s with just 0:04 seconds left in OT to give Southern Illinois the lead for good. Missouri State shot 44.4% from the field and 41.4% (12-29) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Bears was Alize Johnson who had a double-double with 15 points, 16 rebounds, and 5 assists. On the season, Missouri State is averaging 70.4 ppg on 43.8% shooting from the field. The Bears are averaging 7.0 three-pointers per game on 32.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Missouri State has been led by Alize Johnson (15.6 ppg, 11.5 rpg, 2.6 apg), Jarrid Rhodes (9.9 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 1.4 apg), Reggie Scurry (8.9 ppg, 4.2 rpg), and Jarred Dixon (8.2 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 2.4 apg). Defensively, Missouri State is holding their opponents to an average of 65.4 ppg on 40.2% shooting from the field. The Bears have a rebound margin of 6.1 and a turnover margin of -1.7.
The Bulldogs are 15-6 ATS in their last 21 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 however, are just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up win. The Bears are 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a ATS win however, are just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games.
Drake has won 3 of their last 4 games and has been led by their offense which ranks 173rd in scoring offense, 73rd in assists per game, 63rd in 3P-FG%, and 12th in FT%. Missouri State has lost 6 of their last 8 games, however, have one of the better defenses in the MVC as the Bears currently rank 26th in scoring defense and 20th in defensive FG%. Drake is just 3-9 on the road this season, however, I haven’t been overly impressed by the Bears recent play as the Missouri State offense can struggle scoring points, I think that Reed Timmer and the Bulldogs offense do enough to at worst cover with the points. Take Drake and the points.
