The Evansville Purple Aces will travel to the Hulman Center to take on the Indiana State Sycamores this Wednesday night in College Basketball action.
The Evansville Purple Aces lost their 3rd consecutive game and dropped to 16-13 (6-10 MVC) on the season after being defeated by the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers, 76-66, this past Sunday. Evansville had no answers on the defensive end in the 2nd half against the Ramblers and couldn’t fight back after Loyola-Chicago took a 60-53 lead with 5:34 left in regulation. Evansville allowed Loyola-Chicago to shoot 58.1% from the field and 47.4% (9-19) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Purple Aces was Ryan Taylor who had 27 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals. On the season, Evansville is averaging 66.1 ppg on 44.7% shooting from the field. The Purple Aces are averaging 5.8 three-pointers per game on 42.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Evansville has been led by Ryan Taylor (21.6 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 1.2 apg), Dru Smith (13.4 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 4.7 apg, 2.2 spg), Blake Simmons (10.9 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 2.2 apg), and K.J. The Indiana State Sycamores lost their 4th straight game and dropped to 11-17 (6-10 MVC) on the season after being defeated by the Southern Illinois Salukis, 76-72 in OT, this past Saturday. Indiana State fought back from a 42-32 halftime deficit to force overtime, however, couldn’t pull out the much-needed win after the Salukis took a 74-69 lead with 2:11 left in the overtime period. Indiana State shot just 38.6% from the field and 26.1% (6-23) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Sycamores was Qiydar Davis who had a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. On the season, Indiana State is averaging 73.4 ppg on 43.2% shooting from the field. The Sycamores are averaging 8.8 three-pointers per game on 37.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Indiana State has been led by Jordan Barnes (17.3 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 3.7 apg, 1.3 spg), Brenton Scott (15.4 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 2.3 apg, 1.8 spg), Qiydar Davis (10.5 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 1.0 apg, 1.7 spg), Tyreke Key (8.3 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.0 spg). Defensively, Indiana State is allowing their opponents to average 73.5 ppg on 44.9% shooting from the field. The Sycamores have a rebound margin of 1.3 and a turnover margin of -0.3.
The Purple Aces are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 Wednesday games however, are just 0-4 ATS in their last 4 road games vs. a team with a losing home record. The Sycamores are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games following a straight up loss and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games.
Evansville has lost 4 of their last 5 games and although their defense has been solid this season, ranking 23rd in scoring defense, the Purple Aces offense has really struggled putting points up on the board as the Purple Aces currently rank just 325th in scoring offense and 186th in FG%. Indiana State has lost 7 of their last 8 games and have been below average on both sides of the ball this season as the Sycamores rank just 204th in scoring offense and 213th in scoring defense. Indiana State hasn’t done well ATS at home as of late, however, as the Purple Aces might be without one of their best scorers and have posted just a 2-9 record on the road this season, I think the Sycamores will do enough damage from beyond the arc to cover this home spread. Take Indiana State to cover.
