The Creighton Bluejays won their 2nd straight game and improved to 21-9 (10-7 Big East) on the season after defeating the DePaul Blue Demons, 82-57, this past Tuesday. Creighton was outstanding on both ends of the court throughout the game and had no trouble securing the victory after taking a 60-40 lead with 13:25 left in regulation. Creighton shot 51.7% from the field while holding DePaul to 35.5% shooting from the field and 21.7% (5-23) shooting from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Bluejays was Marcus Foster who had 20 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. On the season, Creighton is averaging 84.9 ppg on 50.1% shooting from the field. The Bluejays are averaging 10.6 three-pointers per game on 37.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Creighton has been led by Marcus Foster (20.0 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 2.7 apg, 1.0 spg), Khyri Thomas (15.2 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 2.9 apg, 1.5 spg), Toby Hegner (8.7 ppg, 2.9 rpg), and Ronnie Harrell Jr. (7.4 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 2.8 apg). The Marquette Golden Eagles improved to 17-12 (8-9 Big East) on the season after defeating the Georgetown Hoyas, 90-86 in OT, this past Monday. Marquette allowed Georgetown to force OT after the Hoyas made the game-tying lay-up with just 1 second left in regulation, however, the Golden Eagles were able to pull out the victory two Andrew Rowsey FT’s gave Marquette a 4-point lead with 11 seconds left in overtime. Marquette shot 50.8% from the field and 58.1% (18-31) from beyond the arc in the win. Leading the way for the Golden Eagles was Andrew Rowsey who had a double-double with 28 points, 10 assists, 4 rebounds, 1 block, and a steal. On the season, Marquette is averaging 81.8 ppg on 47.3% shooting from the field. The Golden Eagles are averaging 11.1 three-pointers per game on 41.1% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Marquette has been led by Markus Howard (20.8 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.8 apg, 1.0 spg), Andrew Rowsey (19.7 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 4.6 apg, 1.0 spg), Sam Hauser (15.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 2.8 apg, 1.0 spg), and Sacar Anim (7.7 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 1.9 apg). Defensively, Marquette is allowing their opponents to average 78.2 ppg on 47.6% shooting from the field. The Golden Eagles have a rebound margin of -0.8 and a turnover margin of 0.9.

The Bluejays are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall and just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games. The Golden Eagles are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record however, are just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games following an ATS win.

Creighton followed up their huge victory over Villanova with a convincing victory against DePaul and has been led this season by their offense that ranks 9th in scoring offense, 8th in FG%, and 12th in three-pointers made per game. Marquette has won 3 of their last 4 games and has also been led by their offense that ranks 35th in scoring offense, 52nd in FG%, and 7th in both three-pointers made per game and 3P-FG%. Although Creighton’s offense could easily go off for 90+ points against the weak Marquette defense, the Bluejays couldn’t get past the Golden Flashes at home just a couple weeks ago and as I like how Marquette has looked recently, I think the Golden Flashes offense does enough to cover this small home spread.
