America East college basketball rivals the Massachusetts Lowell River Hawks and UMBC Retrievers take the floor in the conference quarterfinals.
The Massachusetts Lowell River Hawks haven’t enjoyed a ton of success in 2017-18 but the team heads in to the postseason with a little momentum with wins in three of four after routing New Hampshire 92-77 on the road. A 45-28 second half run broke open a close game where a 53.3%-44.8% edge in marksmanship and a 19-24 effort at the line carried the day.

The River Hawks saw Jahad Thomas explode for a career high 40 points with five pulls on 15-21 and 9-10 at the stripe. Ryan Jones gave UMass Lowell 18 points, five pulls and five assists while Rinardo Perry and Connor Bennett tossed in eleven points each.
The UMBC Retrievers have generally scored when needed or cranked up the defensive intensity when needed to finish second in the America East. UMBC ended the regular season with wins in five of six following a 62-53 victory at Hartford where a 42%-37.5% shooting edge with more free throws and long balls.
KJ Maura was the Retrievers go to scorer as he poured in a contest high 25 points and five pulls on 8-12 including 6-9 from long distance. UMBC saw Joe Sherburne add 13 points and six rebounds while Jairus Lyles netted ten points and handed out five assists.
Over is 8-2 in UMBC last 10 vs. America East and over is 13-5 in UMBC last 18 overall.
UMBC is far and away the better team and have the ability to run away with this but the spread is about right so I’m looking at the points…
