We have some AAC-tion on the college basketball slate on Sunday as the UCONN Huskies pay a visit to the Houston Cougars.
The UCONN Huskies will try to finish the year on a high note after losing 9 of their last 13 games, but took a step in the right direction with a 72-66 win over Temple in their last outing. Jalen Adams led the Huskies with 25 points on 9 of 15 shooting with 5 threes and a team-high 8 assists while Terry Larrier added 13 points with 7 rebounds and Antwoine Anderson added 10 points to round out the trio of double digit scorers for UCONN in the win. Christian Vital chipped in 7 points with 12 rebounds, 4 assists and a pair of steals as well in the winning effort for the Huskies. Adams leads UCONN with an average of 18.3 points and 4.6 assists per game while Vital leads the Huskies on the glass with 5.4 rebounds per game this season. As a team, UCONN is scoring 67.9 points per game on 41.2% shooting from the field, 32.7% from behind the arc and 75.1% from the foul line this season.

The Houston Cougars will look to stay hot entering the conference tournament after emerging victorious in 15 of their last 19 games, including a 69-56 win over SMU in their last outing. Rob Gray led Houston with 19 points and a team-high 9 assists while Corey Davis Jr. added 17 points on 6 of 17 shooting with 5 triples and Armoni Brooks added 12 points with a team-high 7 rebounds in the win. Galen Robinson Jr. added 4 points with 7 assists and a team-high 5 steals while Fabian White Jr. added 3 blocks in just 16 minutes on the floor. Gray leads Houston with 17.7 points and 4.7 assists per game while Devin Davis leads the Cougars in rebounding with 6.1 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Houston is scoring 77.9 points per game on 46.8% shooting from the field, 39.1% from behind the arc and 71.2% from the foul line this season.
UCONN is 0-6 ATS in their last 6 road games and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games overall while the over is 5-2 in their last 7 conference matchups. Houston is 6-0-1 ATS in their last 7 home games and 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 conference matchups. The underdog is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
With heavy lines like these, it makes sense why the underdog has had so much success in this matchup as this is a lot of points to lay against an experienced UCONN team. However, Houston is extremely underrated and is a dark horse to win the AAC tournament in my opinion. As far as this game goes, Houston is outscoring teams by 16 points at home and have been nothing short of impressive ATS at home this season. UCONN, despite winning against Temple, is still a below average team that’s seem to run out of late-season magic, so I’ll take Houston at home on senior day in a statement rout.
