The Line: UIC Flames PK -- Over/Under: 140 See the Latest Odds
We have some Horizon League quarterfinals action on tap Sunday as the #6 seed Milwaukee Panthers take on the #3 seed UIC Flames.
The Milwaukee Panthers come into the conference tournament as the #6 seed, losing out on a tiebreak with IUPUI after finishing with an 8-10 mark in Horizon League play as part of their 15-16 overall record this season. Give the Panthers some credit for facing off against, and taking down, some pretty big competition, including wins over Iowa State and Loyola-Chicago in addition to road losses to Belmont and Wisconsin this season. Consistency was a big problem for the Panthers, as Milwaukee never got more than 1 game above the .500 mark in Horizon League play the entire season despite putting up a 3 game winning streak at the end of January. Jeremiah Bell led the Panthers in scoring with 13.9 points per game while Bryce Nze led Milwaukee on the glass with 8.3 rebounds per game and Brock Still led the Panthers in assists with 3.2 assists per game this season. As a team, Milwaukee is scoring 68.6 points per game on 44.9% shooting from the field, 33.8% from 3-point range and 66.7% from the foul line this season.
USA TODAY Sports
The UIC Flames got their hands on the #3 seed in the conference tournament following a 12-6 record in Horizon League play as part of their 17-14 overall record this season. UIC scheduled some pretty tough tests of their own, and while the Flames failed to take down teams like St. Joseph’s, Kentucky, Loyola-Chicago, DePaul and Illinois State, it got UIC prepared to face an extremely tough Horizon League schedule. The Flames started conference play 0-2, but proceeded to rattle off wins in 10 of their next 11 games and 12 of their next 14 before dropping back-to-back games to finish the year. Dikembe Dixson led UIC with an average of 14.2 points per game while Jordan Blount led the Flames with 6.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game this season. As a team, UIC is scoring 75.1 points per game on 45.1% shooting from the field, 34.1% from behind the arc and 72.4% from the foul line this season.
Milwaukee is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 8-2 in their last 10 conference matchups. UIC is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 21-6 ATS in their last 27 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 6-0 in their last 6 conference matchups. Milwaukee is 1-5 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
I know anything can happen come tournament time, however this line is showing zero respect to the Flames. UIC has had a solid season compared to years past when the Flames were the laughing stock of the Horizon League and while the Flames haven’t been anything to write home about ATS as of late, the Flames have feasted on teams with a losing record and Milwaukee has had almost no success ATS in this matchup. I'll side with UIC to advance in this pick 'em matchup.
