We have some Colonial Athletic Association college basketball action on Sunday as the William & Mary Tribe take on the Towson Tigers in quarterfinals action.
The Towson Tigers got their hands on the #5 seed in the conference tournament after finishing conference play with an 8-10 record as part of their 18-13 record overall this season. You have to give Towson some props for scheduling, and taking down, some stiff competition in their non-conference part of the schedule, losing by 3 to a very good Old Dominion squad in their season opener and following that up with 10 straight wins, including a 24 point win over FAU and wins over Manhattan, La Salle and Georgia Southern. Consistency was an issue for the Tigers come conference play, as the Tigers never got more than one game above .500 in CAA play, finishing the year with 3 straight losses. Zane Martin led Towson with 19.9 points per game while Justin Gorham led the Tigers with 6.6 rebounds per game and Brian Starr led the Tigers in assists with 2.6 assists per game this season. As a team, Towson is scoring 76.8 points per game on 46.9% shooting from the field, 36.6% from behind the arc and 68.7% from the foul line this season.

The William & Mary Tribe received the #4 seed in the CAA tourney with an 11-7 mark in CAA play as part of their 18-11 overall mark this season. The Tribe also put forth some strong showings, and while the Tribe didn’t emerge victorious in all of them, William & Mary did earn some solid wins over Old Dominion and Marshall while hanging tough against teams like UCF, Ohio State and TCU. The Tribe got off to a strong 5-0 start to conference play, but struggled to keep their footing down the stretch, finishing a game below .500 over their final 13 games. Nathan Knight led the Tribe with 18.1 points per game while Justin Pierce led William & Mary with 8.8 rebounds per game and David Cohn led the Tribe in assists with 6.7 assists per game this season. As a team, William & Mary boasted one of the most impressive offenses in the country, scoring the 5th-most points per game in D-I with 85.6 points per game while owning the 4th-best field goal percentage at 51.2% and the top 3-point and free throw percentages in the nation at 43.5% and 80.9% respectively.
Towson is 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their lat 5 games following a loss while the over is 6-0 in their last 6 games against a team with a winning record. William & Mary is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 neutral site games and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall while the over is 7-0 in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record. Towson is 4-1-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
Towson has had the upper hand ATS in this matchup, and William & Mary gives up a lot of points. However, I’m shocked to see the Tribe as an underdog here. William & Mary has the better offence between the two and have been strong ATS over the last couple of weeks while the same can’t necessarily be said for the Tigers. All in all, I think William & Mary’s offense is the difference here, so I’ll take the free point with William & Mary here.
