We have some MAC tournament first round action on Monday night as the #10 seed Ohio Bobcats square off against the #7 seed Miami-Ohio Red Hawks.

The Ohio Bobcats finished in the 10th position in the MAC after finishing with a 7-11 conference record, finishing last in a tiebreaker with Central Michigan and Bowling Green to end up where they are now. Give the Bobcats credit, they schedules some tough opposition early in the season, losing to Dayton and taking a narrow 5-point loss to currently ranked Clemson while defeating Indiana State. The Bobcats also lost to Iona, Maryland and took Marshall to overtime in the non-conference portion of their schedule, and didn’t get off to the best start in conference, losing 10 of their first 13 games before coming on strong to finish the year, winning 4 of their last 5 games, including sweeping this same Miami-Ohio team after a 75-66 win on the road in the regular season finale. Teyvion Kirk led Ohio with 15.4 points per game while Doug Taylor led the Bobcats with 7.1 rebounds per game and Gavin Block led the Bobcats in assists with 3.3 assists per game this season. As a team, Ohio is scoring 76 points per game on 44.6% shooting from the field, 37.6% from behind the arc and 71.2% from the foul line this season.

USA TODAY Sports

The Miami-Ohio Red Hawks found themselves in the #7 spot after finishing the season with an 8-10 mark in MAC play as part of their 15-16 overall mark to finish 3rd in the MAC East. The Red Hawks also scheduled some decent opposition in the non-conference portion of their schedule, with road losses to Ohio State, DePaul, Missouri and Tulane while notching a home win over Wright State early on in the season. The Red Hawks struggled with consistency, splitting their first 8 games and getting to 6-4 in conference, before unravelling and losing 6 of their last 8 games down the stretch to close out the regular season. Nike Sibande led Miami-Ohio with 14.6 points per game while Logan McLane led the Red Hawks in rebounding with 5.6 rebounds per game and Darrian Ringo led Miami-Ohio in assists with 7.2 assists per game this season. As a team, Miami-Ohio is scoring 71.8 points per game on 43.9% shooting from the field, 34% from behind the arc and 68.7% from the foul line this season.

Ohio is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 5-1-2 ATS in their last 8 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 7-2 in their last 9 road games. Miami-Ohio is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 Monday games and 13-6-1 ATS in their last 20 home games against a team with a losing road record while the over is 3-1-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record. Ohio is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.

This line is the hardest one of Monday’s games in my opinion, however Ohio took both meetings between these two, including winning the regular season finale on the road and have had all of the success ATS in this matchup, so I’ll take a shot with Ohio and the points to complete the 3-game sweep of the Red Hawks here.
