MAC college basketball first round action pits the Akron Zips against the Western Michigan Broncos.
The Akron Zips were not a challenger in the MAC with team in rebuilding mode in 2017-18. Akron ended the year with a 67-65 win versus Kent State where a small 42.9%-40% marksmanship edge was the difference.

The Zips relied on the production of Daniel Utomi who led all scorers with 20 points and eight rebounds on 4-7 and 11-15 at the stripe. The duo of Jimond Ivey and Eric Parrish gave Akron eleven points each while Malcolm Duvivier added ten points, five pulls and six helpers.
The Western Michigan Broncos entered 2017-18 with some potential but the team wasn’t a factor with too many issues to overcome defensively. Western Michigan comes off of an 84-71 defeat at Central Michigan to end the regular season where the Chippewas held a 49%-42.9% shooting edge and a 22-12 advantage at the stripe.
Thomas Wilder was the Broncos top offensive threat with 22 points and nine rebounds on 9-18 followed by Seth Dugan with 16 points and eight boards on 5-8 and 6-9 at the line. Reggie Jones gave WMU 14 points and four steals while Josh Davis chipped in with nine points.
Akron are 4-10 ATS in their last 14 road games. Over is 50-23-3 in Western Michigan last 76 home games. Favorite is 19-7 ATS in the last 26 meetings and under is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings.
Western Michigan is the better squad but I expect Akron will put forth a solid effort…
