We have some ACC tournament second round action on Wednesday afternoon as the #9 seed Louisville Cardinals take on the #8 seed Florida State Seminoles in a college basketball matchup.
The Louisville Cardinals ended up as the #9 seed in the tournament following a scandal laced 2017-18 campaign that saw the firing of coach Rick Pitino. The Cards ended up with a 9-9 record in ACC play, losing out on a tiebreaker to these same Florida State Seminoles that they face on Wednesday. Louisville started the year 4-0 and 10-2, but their 3 losses entering conference play came to some above average competition, including Kentucky, Seton Hall and Purdue. The Cards got off to a strong 5-1 start to the year but fell back to earth after losing 4 of 5 then losing 4 of 5 again to close out the regular season. Dang Adel led Louisville in scoring with 15.4 points per game while Ray Spalding led the Cardinals with 8.8 rebounds per game and Quentin Snider led the Cards in assists with 4 assists per game this season. As a team, Louisville is scoring 76.6 points per game on 45.7% shooting from the field, 36.3% from behind the arc and 73.8% from the foul line this season.

The Florida State Seminoles got the #8 seed, finishing with the same 9-9 ACC record as Louisville as part of their 20-10 overall mark this season. Florida State got off to a strong start of their own, starting 9-0 and 11-1 to enter conference play with a win over Florida on the road with their lone defeat coming against Oklahoma State. Consistency was an issue for FSU, as the Seminoles never got more than one game above .500, despite posting a 3 game winning streak in late January. Terance Mann was the Seminoles’ leading scorer and rebounder with 13.3 points and 5.7 boards per game while Trent Forrest led Florida State in assists with 3.9 assists per game this season. As a team, Florida State is scoring 82 points per game on 47.5% shooting from the field, 35% from behind the arc and 68.8% from the foul line this season.
Louisville is 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 games against a team with a winning record and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 neutral site games while the under is 40-19-2 in their last 61 games following a loss. Florida State is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 7-3-1 in their last 11 neutral site games. Louisville is 3-1-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
Neither of these teams are ones you’d want to back in their current form ATS, and this could go either way with both teams on the bubble for the NCAA tournament. With that said, I find Florida State’s offense a lot easier to trust than Louisville’s, so I’ll side with Florida State here in a pick ‘em scenario.
