The Atlantic Ten college basketball tournament gets underway with a first round tilt between the La Salle Explorers and the UMass Minutemen.
The Massachusetts Minutemen dropped six a row before defeating Duquesne 85-75 in the final game of the regular season. Massachusetts relied on a 58.2%-49.2% edge in marksmanship including a 9-16 effort from beyond the arc.

Malik Hines was the top gun for the Minutemen with a contest high 20 points and five pulls followed by Rayshawn Miller and Luwane Pipkins with 16 points apiece. Carl Pierre gave UMass 15 points while CJ Anderson added 12 points and 12 assists.
The La Salle Explorers played well over the final few weeks of the regular season that was capped off by a 78-70 loss at St. Joseph’s. La Salle was outshot 48.1%-36.9% but managed eleven more looks at the basket to stay competitive.
The Explorers leaned on Pookie Powell and he responded by leading all scorers with 26 points, six boards and nine assists followed by BJ Johnson with 14 points and eight rebounds. La Salle received ten points from Saul Piri while Amar Stokes chipped in with nine points.
