The opening round of the Southland college basketball tournament features the Texas A&M CC Islanders against the New Orleans Privateers.

Joseph Kilgore was the top Islanders option with a contest high 36 points with eight rebounds followed by Myles Smith with 21 points and five yanks. Texas A&M CC received 12 points and five pulls from Sean Rhea while Kareem South tossed in eleven points.

The New Orleans were 6th in the Southland but seemed to be running out of gas in the final month of the season with losses in five of seven capped off by a 68-64 defeat at Southeastern Louisiana. New Orleans was outshot 57.1%-39.3% but stayed competitive on a 16-5 advantage at the stripe. 

Diontae Champion topped the Privateers attack with 16 points on 6-11 followed by Ezekiel Charles with 12 points on 3-10 and 5-5 at the stripe. Troy Green gave New Orleans eleven points on 4-7 while Lamont Berzat chipped in with nine points. 

Texas A&M CC  are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 neutral site games and Texas A&M CC are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 vs. Southland. New Orleans  are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. Southland and New Orleans are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 neutral site games.

New Orleans hit a small bump to end the regular season but the numbers say Privateers in a close one…
