The Richmond Spiders finished as the #7 seed after finishing 9-9 in conference play and 11-19 overall. You don’t need a math major to figure out that Richmond really struggled out of conference, starting the year 2-10, with wins over UAB and James Madison with some high-profile losses to Boston College, Wake Forest, Old Dominion, Georgetown and Cincinnati. The Spiders started A-10 play slow, starting just 1-3 but rattled off 5 straight wins and 6 of 7 and looked to have turned the corner before reverting back to old form, with 5 straight defeats before back-to-back wins to close out the regular season. Grant Golden led Richmond in scoring with 16 points per game while De’Monte Buckingham led the Spiders in rebounding with 7.1 rebounds per game and Jacob Gilyard led Richmond in assists with 4.1 assists per game this season. As a team, Richmond is scoring 71.3 points per game on 45.8% shooting from the field, 32.7% from behind the 3-point line and 71.7% from the foul line this season.
Duquesne is 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games against a team with a losing record and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 neutral site games while the over is 11-3 in their last 14 games overall. Richmond is 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a win and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 21-8-1 in their last 30 conference matchups. Duquesne is 4-17 ATS in the last 21 meetings between these two teams.
This one could go either way in all honesty, however I liked what I’ve seen from Richmond despite a lengthy losing skid before closing out the regular season on a high note. Plus there’s the fact that Duquesne hasn’t covered in 17 of the last 21 meetings with Richmond, so I’ll lay the bucket with the Spiders to advance here.
