We have some C-USA semifinals action on Friday night as the #3 seed Western Kentucky Hilltoppers take on the #2 seed Old Dominion Monarchs in a college basketball matchup.
The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers found their way to the semifinals thanks to a 98-70 beatdown of UAB in the quarterfinals on Thursday. Taveion Hollingsworth led WKU with 22 points on 8 of 12 shooting with a pair of threes while Darius Thompson came right behind in 2nd with 20 points and a team-high 7 assists and 4 steals. Justin Johnson and Lamonte Bearden both came 3rd with 19 points apiece, with Johnson shooting 7 of 13 with 3 triples and a team-high 10 rebounds while Bearden shot 7 of 11 with 3 assists. Josh Anderson added 10 points to round out the double digit scoring for Western Kentucky in the win. Johnson leads the Hilltoppers with an average of 15 points and 9.4 rebounds per game while Thompson leads Western Kentucky in the assists department with 4.8 assists per game this season. As a team, Western Kentucky is scoring 79.4 points per game on 50.1% shooting from the field which is the 8th-best field goal percentage in the country, along with a 36% mark from downtown and 70.7% from the foul line this season.

The Old Dominion Monarchs punched their trip to the semis by virtue of a 62-58 victory over Louisiana Tech in their quarterfinal matchup on Thursday. B.J. Stith led ODU with 22 points on 6 of 13 shooting with 12 rebounds for the double-double while Trey Porter added 18 points on 7 of 9 shooting and Ahmad Caver added a pair of triples with 7 rebounds and a team-high 8 assists to round out the trio of double digit scorers for the Monarchs in the win. Brandan Stith added 9 points with 7 rebounds and a team-high 3 blocks in the winning effort for Old Dominion. B.J. Stith leads Old Dominion in scoring with 14.5 points per game while Brandan Stith leads the Monarchs on the glass with 7.6 rebounds per game and Ahmad Caver leads the way for ODU in assists with 6.3 helpers per game this season. As a team, Old Dominion is scoring 74.1 points per game on 44.9% shooting from the field, 36.3% from behind the arc and 69.8% from the foul line this season.
Western Kentucky is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 41-18 ATS in their last 59 neutral site games while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 conference matchups. Old Dominion is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a win while the under is 36-15 in their last 51 neutral site games. The over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
Old Dominion boasts a top-10 defense in terms of points allowed, but the issue for me is that didn’t matter against the Hilltoppers, who took down Old Dominion in both meetings this season, including a 22-point beatdown just a couple of weeks ago. I think Western Kentucky rides their momentum of their last win over Old Dominion and their quarterfinal victory over UAB to a win here, so I'll lay the point with Western Kentucky in this one.
