We have some AAC quarterfinals action on tap Friday night as the #2 seed Wichita State Shockers take on the #7 seed Temple Owls in a college basketball matchup.
The #7 seed Temple Owls punched their ticket to the AAC quarters thanks to an 82-77 win over Tulane in their first round matchup. Obi Enechionyia led the Owls with 19 points on 5 of 7 shooting from 3-point range along with 3 blocks, while Shizz Alston Jr. came right behind in 2nd with 17 points and a team-high 8 assists. Josh Brown added 15 points and a share of the team-high with 6 rebounds while J.P. Moorman added 10 points to round out the scoring in double figures for the Owls in the win. Nate Pierre-Louis also added 6 rebounds of his own in Temple’s winning effort. Quinton Rose logged 9 points, but still leads Temple in scoring with an average of 14.7 points per game while Enechionyia leads the Owls in rebounding with 6 rebounds per game and Josh Brown is the Owls’ top assist man with 3.4 assists per game this season. As a team, Temple is scoring 70 points per game on 42.3% shooting from the field, 35% from behind the arc and 68.8% from the foul line this season.

The Wichita State Shockers come into this one rested after a first-round bye thanks to receiving the #2 seed in their first season as a member of the AAC. The Shockers compiled a 14-4 conference mark as part of their 24-6 overall record this season. Wichita State jumped out to a 4-0 and 8-1 start, finishing conference play at 10-2 with wins over Baylor, Marquette and California, with their lone blemishes coming at home against Oklahoma and against Notre Dame on a neutral floor. The Shockers started the AAC portion of their schedule with 5 straight wins and 14 of their first 17, winning 7 straight before a 62-61 loss to Cincinnati in their regular season finale that many have already tabbed as an instant classic. Landry Shamet leads the Shockers with an average of 14.6 points and 5.2 assists per game while Rashard Kelly is Wichita State’s leading rebounder with 7.4 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Wichita State is scoring 83.1 points per game on 48% shooting from the field, 38.6% from behind the arc and 73.5% from the foul line this season.
Temple is 12-3 ATS in their last 15 neutral site games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the over is 10-4 in their last 14 games following a win. Wichita State is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 7-18-1 ATS in their last 26 neutral site games while the over is 13-3 in their last 16 conference matchups
Temple came on strong to finish the season and are always the gritty kind of team come conference tournament that puts a scare in some teams. However, Wichita State has been the model of consistency in their first season in the AAC and look to be primed for a rematch with Cincinnati in the conference championship game should both get there. The problem with this line for me is that this is a lot of points to lay with a Temple team that has had success on a neutral floor and is more than capable of keeping this within single digits, so I'll take a shot at Temple and the points here.
