The Rhode Island Rams will be looking to head back to the conference championship game for the 2nd straight year after taking down VCU in their quarterfinal matchup by a final score of 76-67. Jeff Dowtin led URI with 18 points on 7 of 10 shooting with 3 triples and 4 assists while Jared Terrell came 2nd with 16 points including 3 triples and 3 steals. E.C. Matthews and Fatts Russell each added 11 points with Matthews contributing 6 rebounds while Russell added 3 triples in 18 minutes. Stanford Robinson chipped in a team-high 8 rebounds while Jarvis Garrett dished out a team-high 5 assists in just 8 minutes off of the bench. Terrell leads the Rams with an average of 17.7 points per game while Dowtin leads Rhode Island with 5.5 assists per game and Cyril Langevine is Rhode Island’s top rebounder with 5.9 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Rhode Island is scoring 76.4 points per game on 46.2% shooting from the field, 34.4% from behind the 3-point line and 71.1% from the foul line this season.
St. Joseph's is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a win while the under is 7-3 in their last 10 neutral site games. Rhode Island is 7-1 ATS in their last 8 neutral site games and 18-8 ATS in their last 26 conference matchups while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. The under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
A lot of people may remember the only meeting between these two teams when Saint Joseph’s went on the road and obliterated Rhode Island by 30 points on their home floor. However, that game came right after URI had clinched the A-10 regular season title so there was a bit of a hangover there. This is do or die for the Hawks, but Rhode Island has been the team to beat from the A-10 this season. With that said, I like how the Hawks have been playing lately, and while Rhode Island is very good, the fact is that they allowed VCU to hang around for a lot of the game in their last outing, so I'll take a shot with St. Joseph's and the points.
