In NIT NCAA basketball action on Tuesday, the Hampton Pirates will be taking on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish out at Joyce Center.
Hampton comes into this game with a 19-15 record overall. The Pirates had an 11-game win streak going before falling to North Carolina Central on Saturday. In that one, Hampton’s top scorer was Malique Trent-Street with 15 points.
USA TODAY Sports
On the year, Jermaine Marrow is the top Pirates scorer with 18.7 PPG, 4.9 RPG and 5.4 APG. Also in double-figures for Hampton are Trent-Street (14.0 PPG) and Kalin Fisher (12.6 PPG).
Over on the Notre Dame side, they’re sitting at 20-14 on the year. The Irish had won four games in a five-game span, but then lost to Duke back on Thursday in conference tourney action. Tops for the Irish in that one was Bonzie Colson with 18 points.
Colson is also the leading scorer for the Irish on the year with 20.2 PPG and 10.1 RPG, while Matt Farrell has 16.8 PPG and 5.5 APG. Also in double-figures for Notre Dame are TJ Gibbs (15.2 PPG) and Martinas Geben (10.9 PPG).
The Pirates are 4-0 ATS in their last four Tuesday games and 5-1 ATS in their last six following an ATS loss. Hampton is also 12-4 ATS in their last 16 road games and 1-4 ATS in their last five non-conference games.
Meanwhile, the Irish are 5-0 ATS in their last five following an ATS loss and 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games. Notre Dame is also 1-4 ATS in their last five Tuesday games and 1-4 ATS in their last five non-conference games.
Hampton had a pretty nice run going during their winning streak, and for the most part they were scoring very well in that span before coming up with just 63 points versus NCC. As for Notre Dame, they should do well in the NIT after they get over the disappointment of being left out of the main tournament. Still, I think Hampton has the offense to keep up here so I’m leaning that way.
