Out at EMU Convocation Center on Wednesday, we’ve got CIT basketball action coming between the Niagara Purple Eagles and the Eastern Michigan Eagles.
Niagara comes in here with a 19-13 record overall. The Purple Eagles have lost three of their last four games, including their last appearance March 3 against Fairfield. In that one, Niagara’s lead scorer was Dominic Robb with 29 points.
USA TODAY Sports
Tops in scoring for the Purple Eagles is Kahlil Dukes with 21.1 PPG, while Matt Scott has 19.5 PPG and 7.4 RPG. Also in double-figures for Niagara this year is Marvin Prochet with 10.3 PPG and 7.8 RPG.
Over on the Eastern Michigan side, they’re sitting at 21-12 on the year. The Eagles had a seven-game winning streak snapped on March 9 by Toledo. In that game, Eastern Michigan’s top scorer was Paul Jackson with 26 points.
Elijah Minnie leads the Eagles on 16.8 PPG and 6.2 RPG this year, while Jackson has 15.2 PPG and 4.5 APG. Also in double-figures for Eastern Michigan is James Thompson with 14.7 PPG and 11.0 RPG.
The Purple Eagles are 5-1 ATS in their last six following an ATS loss and 4-1 ATS in their last five following a straight-up loss. Niagara is also 9-3 ATS in their last 12 road games and 0-4 ATS in the last four versus the MAC.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are 6-0 ATS in their last six following an ATS win and 7-0 ATS in their last seven overall. Eastern Michigan is also 4-1 ATS in their last five home games and 4-1 ATS in their last five non-conference games.
Even though they’ve been losing lately, Niagara has put up some decent offensive numbers with at least 72 points in each of their last eight games. Conversely, Eastern Michigan has been playing solid defense and probably should have beaten Toledo. In any case, I’m leaning toward Eastern Michigan to cover here.
