The Northern Colorado Bears butt heads with the Sam Houston State Bearkats in the CIT semis in Wednesday college basketball action.
The Sam Houston State Bearkats punched their ticket to the CIT semifinals with a 76-69 victory at Texas-San Antonio as a five point underdog. A 48-32 second half run rallied Sam Houston State from a nine point hole at the break where the Roadrunners won the shooting battle 44.1%-37.5% but were outshot 27-7 at the stripe.
John Dewey III topped the Bearkats offense with 18 points on 4-12 and 8-10 at the line followed by Cameron Delaney with 13 points and six boards. Josh Delaney and Christopher Galbreath Jr. gave Sam Houston State eleven points apiece with Galbreath Jr. hauling in 12 rebounds on 6-23 while Jamal Williams added seven points and seven pulls.
The Northern Colorado Bears advanced to the CIT semifinals with an 86-75 victory at the San Diego Toreros. Northern Colorado trailed by five heading to the locker room before a 48-32 run over the final 20 minutes won it. The Bears were outshot 53.6%-47.6% but managed seven more looks and a 17-8 edge at the foul line.
Andre Spight was the Bears go to scorer as he poured in a game high 26 points with five pulls on 9-22 including 6-15 from long range. Jordan Davis gave Northern Colorado 21 points and 12 rebounds on 7-12 and 7-9 at the stripe while Anthony Johnson netted 20 points on 7-13.
I have been riding Northern Colorado the majority of the time in 2017-18 but I’m a little torn here as the line is a bit high for my liking. I'll likely watch and root for Northern Colorado...
