San Lorenzo de Almagro and Kentucky Wildcats meet Thursday in college basketball preseason action at the Imperial Arena.
San Lorenzo de Almagro is an experienced team from Argentina that hasn’t played since winning Liga A against San Martin by 18 points back in June. San Lorenzo has six players who are at least 30 years old, and does have a two-time NBA champion on its roster in Joel Anthony. Dar Tucker returns after averaging 16.2 points on 56 percent shooting while Javier Justiz averaged 11.9 points and seven rebounds. Nicolás Aguirre dished 5.7 assists per game and Selem Safar shot 41 percent from the field. San Lorenzo de Almagro shot nearly 56 percent from the field last season and averaged only 12.2 turnovers per game. So, this is a disciplined team with a lot of experience and enough firepower to get the job done here. Yes, the loss of Gabriel Deck to Real Madrid does hurt, but this is still a more than respectable team that will compete in league play.

The Kentucky Wildcats played the Bahamas National Team last night and should be ready to prove themselves against some grown men. Kentucky once again enters as one of the younger college basketball teams in the country, as there’s only three players on this roster who aren’t a freshman or sophomore. The addition of Stanford transfer Reid Travis is massive, as it brings a guy who can play both ends of the floor and much needed experience. Ashton Hagans and form one of the better freshmen backcourts in the country, while Keldon Johnson, E.J. Montgomery and Immanuel Quickley are all five-star recruits. Overall, there’s nine players on this UK roster who stand at least 6’4”. Talent obviously isn’t an issue for Kentucky, it’s a question of experience, as these guys haven’t played together in games yet, let alone in games against guys 10 years older. Win, lose or draw, the Kentucky Wildcats will come out as a better team from these games.
I like the fact that Kentucky will have a game under its belt before this game, as it gives guys a chance to get comfortable and get their feet wet against decent comp. San Lorenzo de Almagro is a more than respectable bunch that's used to playing together, so the plus money is worth a strong look. However, Kentucky is head and shoulders the more atheltic group with the better pure players across the board. San Lorenzo is also without its best player from last season. Kentucky gets off to a strong start, and it could be smooth sailing for Big Blue.
I'll take Kentucky to win this game.
