Mega Bemax and Kentucky Wildcats meet Saturday in college basketball preseason action at the Imperial Arena.
Mega Bemax is a team from Serbia that won the Serbian Cup in 2016 and featured Nikola Jokic for a few years before he was picked up by the Denver Nuggets. This years squad saw six players leave from last season, so there will be some adjusting. Mega Bemax is a very young team overall when you consider there’s just one play over 24 years old, and five players are still teenagers. Goga Bitadze is a young player already averaging double-digit points at the center position and Ognjen Carapic has really shined in the backup point guard role. Andrija Marjanovic is one of the more promising players on the team and Kostja Mushidi was the 2016 MVP in the Albert Schweitzer Tournament. Mega Bemax has some interesting players on its roster and young guys who can put on a show, so this will be a good test against a team similar in age.

The Kentucky Wildcats are coming off back-to-back blowouts over the Bahamas National Team and San Lorenzo de Almagro. Tyler Herro is coming off a 22-point performance and has balled in both games, while PJ Washington scored 15 points in just under 25 minutes. Travis Reid is a combined 6-19 from the field in two games and Nick Richards has been arguably the most efficient player on the team up to this point. Despite playing teams much older and experienced than them, Kentucky has had little trouble in either game and has absolutely dominated in each second half. It’s like once UK gets comfortable and figures out its opponent, there’s little slowing down this club. You can’t help but be impressed with what we’ve seen so far from this side, especially in the last game when it played grown men who have played some of the best overseas. The Kentucky Wildcats have won two games by a combined 47 points, which is impressive given the youth of this club.
There's nothing that we've seen from the Kentucky Wildcats that suggests they'll be tripped up here. If it was going to happen, it would have happened against players much more experienced than them. Against players in the same age bracket, Kentucky probably wins this game by an even larger margin due to the respect factor. It's also important to note that Mega Bemax has a lot of turnover from a year ago, these clubs are in the same boat.
Give me the much, much more talented team for the rather decent price given the circumstances. Kentucky wins big.
